How We Started

Flanders Pharmacy Inc. is a family owned business established in 1993 under the visionary leadership of Mr. Willis Othneil Small, fondly known as 'Poppy'. Born and raised in Small Town, St. John, Mr. Small was driven by a passion for serving his community. He envisioned a pharmacy that not only provided essential healthcare services and products, but also fostered a sense of warmth and care for its patrons.

At 39 years of age, Mr. Small realized his dream by establishing Flanders Pharmacy Inc., located in the city of Bridgetown and initially staffed by a dedicated team of eight individuals. The name 'Flanders' pays homage to the "Poppy Field" in Belgium and France, symbolizing remembrance and a hopeful future. Mr. Small aimed for his pharmacy to be synonymous with exceptional service, where customers could rely on the expertise and kindness of his staff.

After Mr. Small's passing in 2023, his granddaughter Makila Small, assumed the leadership of the business, being determined to uphold her grandfather's legacy. Alike her grandfather, Makila remains committed to ensuring that her customers receive the highest level of care and attention that defines her grandfather's vision. In continuation of Mr. Small's tradition, she personally delivers medications to some of the the pharmacy's long-standing patrons, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to serving the community.
